What to Expect on Your First Visit...

brief paperwork:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early; we will have some paperwork for you to fill out. The patient questionnaire provides us with general information about yourself and your current condition.

Initial Consultation:

Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Tucker to discuss your health-related problems, any concerns, as well as learning about potential treatment options.

History & Examination:

To help determine what your actual problem is, Dr. Tucker will ask you various health related questions. Then, a variety of chiropractic, neurological and orthopedic tests will be performed to determine which joints, nerves, muscles and tendons may be affected and to what extent. Try and wear comfortable clothes if you can but you will never be asked to undress for the spinal examination or chiropractic adjustment.

X-RAY ANALYSIS:

Dr. Tucker generally relies on studying the spinal x-rays to perform accurate chiropractic adjustments. These few x-ray pictures are very specific views conducted of your spine. Precise structural measurements can then be made to accurately determine which bone misalignments may be causing your symptoms. These pictures will also help rule out any possibility of an underlying pathology or disease process affecting your spine. Occasionally, Dr. Tucker orders outside MRI scans or CT scan diagnostic studies to help assist him with a difficult diagnosis.

SAME DAY TREATMENT:

Once finished with your consultation, history, examination and x-rays, if you are a patient in pain, then, Dr. Tucker will provide emergency pain relief care. The treatment will not cause additional pain and it may include spinal adjustments, physiotherapy, spinal traction and/or muscle massage. If you're not in extreme pain, your first adjustment will occur on the second visit. This allows Dr. Tucker more time to spend with you after studying your spinal x-rays and examination findings.

Home Instructions:

Prior to leaving, patients may be given instructions on certain activities or procedures that can be done at home to help relieve pain. It may include ice &/or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or sleeping positions, as well as home exercises and stretches.

SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS:

You will be given a convenient appointment time for your next follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen again within 1-2 days and are then provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options, costs and prognosis for your condition will be privately discussed during the second appointment. Dr. Tucker can then recommend a schedule of treatment if you are interested and accepted as a new patient.
